Domain Name

What is a Domain Name and how can I get one?
A domain name is your address on the World Wide Web. To be accessed from anywhere in the world, a domain name must be registered with an ICANN accredited registrar. If you already have a domain name, there is no additional cost to use that domain name with Mechante™. If you need a domain name you can purchase one through the Mechante™ order form. We'll handle the entire registration and domain name management process for you.
What Domain Names can I register on Mechante™?
Mechante™ can register available .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .cc, .gs, .ms, .tc, .vg, .ac, .sh, .co.uk, .org.uk, .nu, and .tv domain names on-line. Use our sign-up form to check the availability of the domain name you want. Contact us to register any other domain.
Can I transfer existing domain name to your servers?
Yes, just be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider while waiting for Your Domain name Registrant to complete the transfer process. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When Your Domain name Registrant announces the completion of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS.
Can Mechante™ host domains with country codes?
Yes, Mechante™ hosts domains with any Top-Level Domain extension.
How long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once the Your Domain name Registrant announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect the new site's location.
